This month's featured
tip:
Ask for Referrals -- from Brides!
Last month we advised
you to seek the input of the wedding professionals you have
booked to get referrals to the other professionals they feel
are "the best." This month, we remind you to *also*
seek references from recent brides.
There's no doubt that vendors have a unique
perspective on their peers -- they work with them at weddings
all through the year, and therefore know who has (or lacks!)
professionalism, who is regarded as ethical, and who works
well with the other members of a wedding event "team."
This last bit is more important than you might think -- since
teamwork is key to a flawless event!
But, these references are no substitute for
the experience of recent brides -- who can bring to their
reviews many perspectives that will be crucial to you, while
not necessarily visible or important to other vendors. For
example, what about post-wedding follow-up? This is key when
evaluating photographers and videographers. What about flexibility
in pre-planning? What about the big intangibles, like how
the vendors interacted with your parents and others who might
be involved in wedding planning? And ... what about buyer's
remorse? If other brides found a vendor's work very satisfactory,
but still felt they overpaid, that could be valuable information.
(Similarly, if they went for a bargain vendor and felt that
they were fairly charged ... but should have spent a bit more
for a higher quality result, that is useful to know, too.)
In
sum: seek referrals from vendors AND references from recent
brides, to best protect your (significant) wedding investment!
