Wedding Show Season (typically January -
April) is in full swing! Bridal shows of all sizes offer a
great opportunity to check out and learn about a variety of
wedding services and vendors in one day. Still, without planning,
a potentially efficient way to shop for your wedding can be
a stressful and unpleasant situation. So ... we bring you
the second of our favorite tips for enhancing your bridal
show experience. (For our first tip, visit last month's column
here.)
Our second wedding show tip: Know which
show you're going to!
Shows differ greatly in size, scope, attitude
and ambience. If you're up for making a day of a show (and
want to see as many vendors as possible, accumulate a big
bag of literature and options, and see up to three wedding
and bridesmaid gown fashion shows), then look for a large-scale
show in a major metro area, in an expo center or large hotel
ballroom. Or, if relaxed and low-pressure is more your thing,
look for a local show at a restaurant or reception site --
one that emphasizes "intimate," "relaxed,"
"local," and advertises 50 or fewer exhibitors.
You'll see fewer companies ... but get to have longer, more
meaningful conversations with the ones that interest you.
And don't forget to confirm directions, dates,
and locations on the show's web site. (It's not uncommon for
times and locations -- and even show dates -- to change after
a show is advertised, since wedding publications often go
to press months before show time.)
