Time Savers For Busy BridesFree
Tips, Solutions and Ideas To Make Your Wedding Planning More Fun
and Less Stressful!

Tips
from Robbi Ernst, founder of today's wedding consulting profession
This month's
focus: GOWNS
On finding
a gown:"Don't schedule
a trip to more than one gown salon per day. It's a
wearing task, so to speak, to crawl in and out of those cumbersome
gowns. You need to be fresh and relaxed for each visit."
While at the gown
salon:"If your mother
has an opinion that is contrary to yours and there is
no hope for compromise, let your salon consultant know. She
has dealt with many a mother who wants to "have her own
wedding" for her daughter. She will often know how to
smooth over any difficulties."
When the gown
you want isn't in the shop:"There's
no need to be unduly suspicious if a salon says they can get
a gown they don't normally carry . . . . Salons pay a hefty
price for exclusivity but in reality can't carry all of a
designer's line. Therefore, they often engage in cooperative
purchasing. This means they can get a gown from a neighboring
salon carrying that line. This is sometimes called trans-shipping.
. . . Just be wary if a salon says they can get any gown
in. Ordering directly from just any manufacturer isn't possible
-- a salon must carry that designer's line to begin wth."
Bustling training:"Take
a couple of your attendants along at one of your last fittings
so they can be taught how to bustle your gown and remove
your veil properly. Don't count on your wedding consultant
for this . . . his or her time can be better spent overseeing
the setup of the reception or dealing with last-minute emergencies."
Keeping track while shopping: "While
few, if any, salons are going to let you take pictures in
different gowns unless you have placed an order, most won't
have any difficulty with you taking notes while in the
salon. Afterward, go for coffee or tea with your mom,
groom or accompanying friend. Sit down and review your
notes about what you liked and disliked while the experience
is still fresh in your memory."
